IPhone App of the Year: Flipboard
Ever so often an application comes by that makes you life easier or much more pleasant. Over the years a few such applications of different breeds made us step back and say WOW!. Such was Super Mario, such was the affect Excel had when you first upgraded from Lotus, such is Flipboard. Originally released for IPad and now available for IPhone too, this beautifully designed App almost revolutionizes the world of newspapers all on its own. Over the past couple of years there have been many attempts at creating digital newspapers. All of them tried to mash together sources and More >
Iphone Gems: Scramble 2
Scramble 2 by Zynga is one those free Iphone games that really make having an Iphone or Ipod touch worthwhile. Its about addictive as a game can be. The simple premise is to extract as make words from the board in the time permitted, this can be done by fingering any combination of letters as long as they are connected. The interface is stunning and the fgame can be played solo, with friends or online. The longer the words the higher you score and when your time is up the game shows you how dumb you are by displaying all the More >
Iphone Gems: Sushipedia
There was a time when a quick fast bite meant your local hamburger joint or ice-cream parlour. Cheap yes, impressive – no way! That was before the revolution. Now if you can’t correctly tell the difference between a Latte, Cafe Breva, Macciato and Cappuchino you are definately not happening and you may have real trouble getting a second date. And then we come to Sushi. Not happy with flooding the world with their electronics and campact automobiles, The Japs sent us their final frontier – the Sushi Bar, and what a brilliant concept it is. A fast food franchise with More >
Currently from Current: The Rotton Tomato Show
Anyone with an Iphone or Ipod Touch can easily download audio or video podcasts via Itunes. Many of the podcasts, that promise TV shows on the fly, actually offer no more than two minute teasers and are really not worth the effort. The guys from http://www.current.com/ offer the real thing – full half hour shows without commercial breaks. The shows are full of comic interludes though the actual reviews are 100% serious. The most fullfilling show from current, in my mind, is the Rotten Tomatoes Show, hosted by the talented Brett Erlich and Ellen Fox. The show borrows it’s reviews More >
Iphone Gems:My Songbook
As you might know by now, if you have read any of stuff, I am mad over music. What you might not know is that I also play the piano but have trouble remembering the chords. The MySongbook Iphone app was exactly what I was looking for. You can keep all the songs you play neatly on your Iphone, download the chords from Chordie.com or other internet sources, even adapt the song to a different pitch or instrument. The app offers chord diagrams and a neat auto scroll feature with controllable speed that makes it a mandatory acquisition for any musician More >
Iphone Gems: FlickTunes
Being the music maniac that I am, I am never on the road without my iphone. However I’m much too lazy to create a driving playist and usually opt for the shuffle – “surprise me!” is my intention but then it’s 7 A.M. and my Itunes decides to punish me with “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict” from Ummagumma (early Pink Floyd for the uneducated among you). Now I’m a faithfull Pink Floyd follower but too much is too much. So I fiddle with the Iphone, which of course is locked, More >
Iphone Gems – pandora box
Among my other quirks, I love gadgets. I look almost daily for new Iphone applications of worth – preferably free ones. Even though I can’t compete with the agility of my kids I enjoy computer games that don’t expent me to kill aliens too often. Apple spoiler: most games of any worth eventually find themselves marketed in the 99 cent price range. But, and this is a very big but, in order to generate some hype the apps creators often begin by marketing them for free for a limited period of time. Because of the multitude of applications out More >
