An ageing rock star, whom I  shall call Rick, was having a hard time finding subjects to write about for his new album.  When he was a poor artist struggling for recognition, the whole pale world around him was his palette. Now fame riches and far too much booze  had left him lacking. Sitting on the bank of the stream at the edge of his garden estate he tried to find something to write about.
A frog jumped out from behind him, giving him a stir. The frog seemed equally shocked and jumped away in a hurry, disappearing into the water. His splash failed to disturb a group of turtles who were resting on a stepping stone towards the middle of the stream. Rick reached for the back pocket of his jeans for his notebook and pen and felt something wet. Standing up to check he realized he had sat in horse manure.

When Rick’s new album was released to triumphant reviews, six months later, the song that  closed it, Froggie, contained  the following lyrics:

Sitting in the back garden,
lazing it quite hard.
A frog passed by without a pardon
He got me off my guard.
He dove right past a turtle group,
Who didn’t care I’m sure.
When I got up I found my bum
Was covered in manure.

 

One music reviewer had the following to say about Froggie:

Froggie is Rick’s ultimate venture into the pursuit of meaning of life – a masterpiece.  Stunned and bereaved by his recent seperation from long time partner Gardania Bottoms, he has written one of the finest pieces of art since Lennon’s Lucy in the Sky. Rick’s ex is symbolically portrayed as a garden where she (Bottoms) takes her final leave of him – his princess turning into a runaway frog. With no hope of a second chance – pardon, he is reduced to a mere shadow of himself that counts the slowly ticking seconds of his remaining years – like a group of Turtles  lamenting “Happy together”. Without Ms Bottoms it would seem that he is in big SH..  Rick has proved once again that his writing talent is second to none.
