Tokyo train system – in a class of it’s own
In general, Tokyo trains are the most orderly in the world. At every station they have clearly marked pairs of lines where you stand while waiting for the next train. When it arrives, the door opens exactly in front of the two lines which part to allow the train passengers to get off the train unobstructed. Then the lines of people get on the train. If you don’t want to take this trai, but the next one, there is a green line especially for this purpose.
To make transport life easier, you can buy a chargeable smart card, called a pasmo which gets you tin and out of the station, automatically deducting the correct amount of your journey. You don’t even have to take it out of your purse or wallet, just place your wallet over the electronic reader and the machine does the rest.
Sometimes, even in Tokyo, there are train delays and there are long lines, but nobody seems to get over-excited or agitated.
Can’t get all the people in? Trust the guys with the white gloves to get the job done.
But then, Tokyo trains have the answer for that, a note for your homeroom teacher or boss as to why you were late.
Many a delay in the past has been caused because someone disregarded the needs of other passengers and decided to jump off the track. In the land of Hari Kari, a solution was caused for, and more and more Tokyo stations now have doors on the platform that don’t open till the train is in station.
How do ensure that passengers don’t get caught between two sets of automatic doors. The sign below has the answer
If you are a woman passenger and hate the thought of hundreds of men closing in on you during rush hour – then why not try the women’s carriage?
But please remember your manners. Keep your voice down, don’t talk on your phone and…
The Tokyo train system – truly in a class of its own!
