Marty and Priscilla Enchent were a happily married elderly couple who lived a normal healthy life. Soon after his 84th birthday, however, Marty started losing weight, complained of lack of appetite and generally became miserable and down. Priscilla, worried that her husband of 52 years had suddenly contracted cancer (God Forbid!), rushed him to the doctor.

Marty underwent dozens of tests. They took blood, urine and more. They poked him here, they xrayed there and basically pricked him everywhere. Finally they arrive to the doctor’s surgery to hear the results. The doctor asks if he can speak to Priscilla in private for a moment.

When Marty leaves the room, the doctor explains:

“Your husband is generally as healthy as a horse. All the tests were positive – blood, urine, heart, lungs… What it basically comes down to is this. Your husband, Mrs. Enchent, desperately needs warmth, love, a kind word every now and then, a hug, a kiss. I’m sure that if you give him some warmth his situation will quickly improve.

Priscilla thanks the doctor for his advice, leaves the room and is reunited with her husband.

“So,” asks Marty, “what did you doctor have to say?”

“I’m sorry Marty, but there’s no hope.”
