Ten years ago the worlds biggest concern was the collapse of the world’s computer systems due to bug 2000. Millions  of dollars were spent, trillions  of words were written and expensive fortune tellers such as McKenzie and Gartner promised Armageddon. When the clocks around the world struck midnight, the lights stayed on, the subways continued running and IT managers across the globe gave a sigh of relief and then started worrying how they were going to explain to upper management why they had payed millions for the biggest Easter Egg of all time.

How close were predictions for the new decade to the reality that followed? Did anyone see September 11th coming? Who believed Apple would become a major force in the market of mobile phones and what about the fall of Lehman Brothers.
So what has changed in ten years. Well the change in our day to day lives appears to be in the way we communicate with each other, whether  on-line via Facebook or Twitter or by our ever reliable and accessible mobile phone.
Here are a couple of examples of how far we’ve come.
