Last Minute Larry

He walks into the station
At thirty seconds before eight.
He’s never in a hurry

’cause he’s sure he won’t be late
And as the train departs, be sure
He’ll be the last one on.

While I am sitting ten before
In case something goes wrong.

And I am always much too early.
Maybe my car engine won’t start
Or there is no room to park
Some unforeseen calamity
That would make me late you see
Oh why, why can’t I be
Very calm and so carefree
It would be nice for once to be

Last minute Larry

We pull into the station
Larry sits still in his seat.
Once everyone has long since gone
He gets up on his feet.
He values every moment
Each minute like it’s gold.
As if he knew the secret
To refrain from getting old

And I am always much too early,
Maybe my car engine won’t start,
Or there is no room to park.
Some unforeseen calamity
That would make me late you see.
Oh why why can’t I be
Very calm and so carefree
It would be nice for once to be
Last minute Larry
