Up up and away
What’s it all about?
When I was at school the poem that had the most influence on me was The Road not Taken by Robert Frost. Everybody makes decisions in life, many at a pretty early stage, and these will often control the rest of your life. I spent four years working at an Investment House in New York and it was there that I became friendly with a couple who’s behavior and politics in life were very different from our own. I’ll call them Joe and Marty in order to protect the guilty.I had been brought up to believe that what was More >
Great Reading: Ken Follett – The Pillars of the Earth
Sometimes you read a great book and can’t get enough of it. Ken Follett was hardly an unknown writer when he wrote The Pillars of the Earth. In fact it was because he was such a famous writer of suspense novels that made it so unlikely that he would ever think of attempting a project like this. Why would a bestselling author of books like The Eye of the Needle and The Key to Rebecca suddenly indulge on a historical novel set in 12th century England with over a thousand pages.
Follett’s agent and publisher thought he More >
My Songs : The Desert
I wrote this song several years ago when I was stuck in the desert with nothing to do for four hours but stare at the stars. With only the moon for lighting I wrote these lines on a scrap of paper I found in my jacket
In the middle of the desert, all on her own, I thought I saw a blue eyed blonde, hiding behind a stone. In the middle of the desert, I seemed to hear her call, And I wondered if there still was time to stop her endless fall. Or maybe it was just a mirage of More >
Iphone Gems – pandora box
Among my other quirks, I love gadgets. I look almost daily for new Iphone applications of worth – preferably free ones. Even though I can’t compete with the agility of my kids I enjoy computer games that don’t expent me to kill aliens too often. Apple spoiler: most games of any worth eventually find themselves marketed in the 99 cent price range. But, and this is a very big but, in order to generate some hype the apps creators often begin by marketing them for free for a limited period of time. Because of the multitude of applications out More >
Stomu
Many years ago I spent some time in London. It was the middle seventies and culture was at it’s peak. Between working and revisiting the sites of my youth (quit hint to my background!) I got to see some classic concerts. I had a lot of luck that year. All the tickets for Elton John were sold out but my cousin managed to get a spare ticket for I group I wasn’t really fond of – Led Zeppelin. They concert, which lasted for around three hours including encores, was of course amazing and went down in history together with a More >
It’s a dog’s world
I have a dog. The I is meant to be taken in the same way that Queen Victoria said We are not amused. I bought Mini when she was only six weeks old. She was a cute white Pekinese running around with 5 sisters and brothers. No body told me then about Pekinese. No one informed me how stubborn they are or good at having their own way. One thing was sure, she knew who was boss – she was. Now let me explain something about the written agreement between dogs and men. A dog never bites or attacks its owner. Unfortunately, More >
So this is my first post
I am still playing with the idea of what to post, so please be patient with me. As you will soon know, my likes are varied. I write poems and songs so I will treat you with a song regularly. I am also a great follower of gadgets, especially Iphone apps which I have too many of. More about that later. I have beentrying hopelessly to write a novel for ages but it never seems good enough, so here I am doing the next best thing. Oh and I’m a mad music freak reliving the sixties and the seventies.
